Every vendor is claiming AI. Most are building it on infrastructure that was never designed to support it.

Closing Keynote: Tuesday, September 2, 3:30 to 4:15 PM CT
Culinary Digital CEO Ian Worden will deliver the closing keynote at GRIT Chicago 2026, taking place September 1 to 3 at River Roast in Chicago. Worden joins a curated lineup of speakers from organizations including Navy Pier, The Coca-Cola Company, and Little Caesars, sharing firsthand accounts of how intelligence shaped real strategic decisions.
The Signal Behind the Keynote
Worden’s keynote, “What the Canary Detected: How Competitive Intelligence Revealed a Threat Beyond Our Competitors,” tells the story of what happened when Culinary Digital hired a firm to study its competitors and got back something nobody had asked for: proof that AI is changing the terms of competition for the whole category, not just what individual companies build.
The finding was that AI is about to turn “we use AI” from a differentiator into table stakes, and the real competitive line will fall somewhere nobody’s watching yet, between operators whose data was ready for that and operators whose data wasn’t.
Why the Signal Reshaped the Product
Operators already have enough to navigate: tightening compliance, thinner margins, staffing shortages. And now AI is joining the list, whether operators asked for it or not. AI, bolted onto the same fragmented data operators have always worked with, doesn’t fix that fragmentation. It just moves faster, which means the noise moves faster too. This means that now there are more outputs to double-check.
That’s exactly the gap Culinary Digital built The Operating System for Institutional Foodservice to close. A System of Record connects recipe, nutrition, and procurement data so it stays current and accurate, the layer any tool, AI-assisted or not, actually needs to work from with confidence.
That foundation is also the prerequisite for where the platform is headed next: a System of Intelligence built on Signals, Alerts, and Recommendations as they roll out, and eventually a System of Action that applies AI, machine learning, and automation to act on them. The keynote’s five lessons walk through what it took to recognize that opportunity early and build toward it deliberately, instead of chasing AI features the underlying data couldn’t yet support.
Worden brings two decades of SaaS and platform leadership to the conversation, along with advanced study in artificial intelligence at MIT, Wharton, UC Berkeley, and the University of Texas. His closing argument: the operators who survive AI disruption will be the ones who trusted the earliest signal and built on it before it was obvious to everyone else, not the ones who simply reacted fastest.
About GRIT Chicago 2026
GRIT Chicago is co-hosted by Aurora WDC, Comintelli, and Proactive Worldwide, three leading firms in the strategic and competitive intelligence field. The event is intentionally kept small, capped at 100 attendees, and closed to consultants, agencies, and vendors, so every conversation happens among practitioners facing the same challenges inside their own organizations.
